Pre-operative Instructions

The following instructions may be helpful when preparing for your upcoming surgery. Please do not hesitate to call if you have any last minute questions. We can be reached at 905-497-GUMS (4867) during regular business hours.

• Stop taking certain medications, as discussed, prior to the dental surgery appointment.  This may include aspirin and blood thinners.
• Take antibiotic pre-medication as prescribed, if required, one hour prior to dental surgical appointment
• If you are not having oral sedation, please eat a good meal prior to surgery
• If you are having sedation, no eating or drinking, 4 hours prior to surgery
• Feel free to bring your iPod or MP3 player to listen to during the appointment

You will be seen 1-2 weeks after the gum procedure of a post-operative appointment, in order to evaluate progress and healing.

Oral sedation:

If you elect to use one of the following oral sedatives you must have a ride to and from the office.

• Ativan (Lorazepam)
• Triazolam (Halcion)

Food Suggestions:

When preparing a post-op menu, please consider some of the following choices soft food choices:

• Soups
• Pudding
• Rice
• Apple Sauce
• Oatmeal
• Pasta
• Mashed Potatoes
• Eggs
• Bananas
• Casseroles
• Cottage Cheese
• Fish
